The weather, currently.

The recent series of atmospheric rivers wreaked more havoc across the state. From an overturned big rig, to structural damage, to a breached levee in Monterey County that caused disastrous flooding and forced thousands to evacuate.
In the case of the levee, its dilapidated state has been known for years. But, the lower value of the residential and farming property in the low-income area with a predominantly Latine population meant it wasn’t prioritized. Ultimately, the $400 million repair job was funded by the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill, but was stuck in the environmental review phase when catastrophe struck.
A number of you have asked for a map of the Pajaro breech (red) and resultant flooding flows (blue). The flood waters are draining back into the river a mile from the beach and also through the low area near Las Lomas into Elkhorn Slough. #CAwx @KION546 pic.twitter.com/Nfus9OX7tR
